Don’t budget, it does not work and the smartest organisations don’t do it any more
Companies in Asia, Europe, America and some in New Zealand are recognising that the existing annual budget process cannot continue. It is now seen by many that the budgetary process is a hindrance to management rather than a help. An international survey found that nearly 90% of CFOs were dissatisfied with their budget process and that there was often no link from the annual budget to strategy. As one management writer pointed out “that there was a strange sense of pride for the negotiating skills of our manager. Every year he promised less and asked for more. The incessant game playing extended the budget round and limited the need for us to stretch or seek breakthrough solutions”. Does this sound familiar?
This workshop is a chance for those who missed Jeremy Hope, one of the pioneers behind the beyond budgeting movement, to receive: the message, case studies and inspiration to “break free”. Participants will have the road map to provide a system that is more flexible, linked to strategy, improves management of finances and saves time!
Content:
- look at some beyond budgeting case studies
- investigate the options some New Zealand organisations are taking in adopting this methodology covering both public and private sector companies
- understand the beyond budgeting methodology and the linkage to other management models (KPIs, balanced scorecard, rolling forecasting etc.)
- develop a better linkage between budgeting and forecasting procedures
- selling strategies to pave the way for adopting the beyond management model
Benefits of attending:
Upon attending you will able to:
- apply the templates provided including an implementation programme
- identify the key steps in implementing beyond budgeting
- explain to your management why your organisation should change its budget process
- recall the workshop findings as these will be available electronically a week after the workshop
